Superintendent's Letter to Parents

We encourage you to read Superintendent Garcia’s letter to parents addressed January 7. This letter contains important information concerning updated COVID-19 information and preventions.

Dear West Oso ISD Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back and to the year 2022! During this winter break, I hope that you as parents and guardians had opportunities for joyous moments with friends and family in a safe environment. These holidays also brought a mixture of emotions, including personal loss or illness due to COVID-19. My hope is that those who have suffered loss or illness will find healing and peace.

As a school community, we continue to face and overcome obstacles related to this pandemic and are now dealing with the highly contagious Omicron variant of the COVID virus. Our objective is to keep as many students in school and learning as much as possible. Our staff and students have shown they can respond quickly to meet the changing needs of our community. As parents, it is your resiliency, hard work, and determination that will help us make it through the second part of this school year.

The West Oso ISD Board of Trustees and our staff have been closely monitoring the number of COVID-19 cases in our community. I am also in contact with the Nueces County Health Department, CDC, and other agencies as we monitor health trends and recommendations from medical professionals. We continue to adjust our protocols and cleaning guidelines according to the latest information available.

Although mask mandates are not legal in Texas and there is no set mandate for students or staff, we have to seriously consider the number of immune-compromised students and staff who must be protected while attending school. The West Oso ISD Board of Trustees and our staff support strongly encouraging the continued use of masks at all campuses and district facilities to help protect against COVID-19 and the highly contagious Omicron variant.

Please read the entire superintendent's letter to parents.
