Communities in Schools (CIS)

We at West Oso ISD are in partnership with Communities in Schools of the Coastal Bend to help bring this amazing and important program to the district at all four campuses.

CIS Mission Statement

The mission of CIS of Texas is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Five Basic Beliefs

The Five CIS Basics are core tenets to success that every individual needs for success. At JFK, we incorporate these values through our program plans, services, and interviews and through direct observation of the CIS environment on our campus.

At CIS we believe that every child needs and deserves the following:

  • A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult
  • A safe place to learn and grow
  • A healthy start and a healthy future
  • A marketable skill to use upon graduation
  • A chance to give back to peers and communities

A Message from Our CIS Site Coordinator

My name is Deborah Vega, and I am the CIS site coordinator at John F. Kennedy Elementary. I am very excited and fortunate to be able to work for such an amazing school district that cares about the success of the students.

A little about me:

I was born in Corpus Christi but moved to Robstown, Texas, when I was little. I earned my bachelor's in community and mental health with a minor in social work from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

This is my second year working in the West Oso Independent School District. I am grateful to have an awesome principal and administrative staff at John F. Kennedy Elementary. We as a team will do whatever it takes to help our kids be successful in life.
